This past weekend, we discovered a hidden gem in Victoria's High Country, escaping into a winter wonderland with Alpine Nature Experience. Our adventure began with a drive to Mount Hotham, where the breathtaking Alpine scenery set the stage for an unforgettable getaway.

Our accommodation for the weekend was nothing short of magical. We stayed in one of Alpine Nature Experience's Hypedomes, a unique snow glamping setup nestled among a snow gum forest. As we settled into our Hypedome, the serenity of the pristine alpine setting enveloped us. With only three domes available, the exclusivity of the experience was guaranteed. We marvelled at the views over Dargo Valley, the striking colour palette of the Snowgum forest, and the tranquil atmosphere that made this place perfect for a romantic escapade or a memorable trip with friends and family.

The snowshoe is how it all begins – you snowshoe to the eco camp where you are served glühwein (mulled wine) and can watch the sunset or sit around the central fire. Dinner is served in the central tipi – a three-course French-inspired feast, with the highlight being a traditional French fondue (because cheese is life, yeah?). The fondue, paired with fine wines, craft beers, and French liqueurs, was nothing short of divine, making for a truly unforgettable culinary experience.

Back at the eco-village, the central tipi and outdoor bar provided a cosy communal space where we could unwind by the fireplace and mingle with other guests. The service was impeccable, and the entire setup reflected a deep commitment to sustainability. Alpine Nature Experience has transitioned to a carbon-positive business, offsetting CO2 emissions for both the company and its guests. Their dedication to the environment is further demonstrated by their membership with 1% for the Planet and their support for various environmental organisations.

What truly sets Alpine Nature Experience apart is their commitment to local sourcing. Ninety percent of their products come from within 120km of Mount Hotham, supporting local businesses and reducing food miles. The remaining 10% includes authentic French cheese and spirits, adding an international touch to the experience.

As we left the snowy wonderland and headed back to reality, we couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for having discovered such a unique and memorable retreat.
