Accommodation: The Hotel Maria
The essence of old-world charm intersects with modern design luxury in the buildings that The Hotel Maria has been created within. With a long cultural history, the four historic buildings, now protected by The Finnish Heritage Agency, tell many tales of days gone by.
The grounds of these buildings were frequented by famed Finnish poets Johan Ludvig Runeberg, Fredrik Cygnaeus and their social circle, where they would discuss literature, philosophy and art with vigour. These buildings have also housed generations of government, military and, more recently, The Arts Council of Finland. Much of the original details of these buildings have been carefully preserved and are proudly honored and enhanced throughout the hotel.

Why not?:
Finland’s capital Helsinki, home to The Hotel Maria, is a majestic destination, brimming with cultural and natural wonders. Architecture enthusiasts relish in the distinctive blend of historic neoclassical and modern Nordic influences while nature lovers bask in its wealth of green space. Helsinki is a friendly and safe city and, with most Finns speaking English, Helsinki is easy to navigate and explore.
Positioned on the Baltic Sea, Helsinki has over 100 kilometres of uninterrupted shoreline with idyllic beaches and picturesque islands to explore, including the Suomenlinna sea fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with museums, cafes and beautiful views. One of the most popular areas on the Helsinki seaside is the Market Square. Located in the heart of the city, it is home to a variety of local vendors offering a chance to indulge in traditional Finnish fare.
Although a simple pursuit, immersing in nature is one of life’s greatest luxuries. With a deep cultural affinity to the outdoors, Finland is the most forest rich country in Europe, with highly revered clean air. From Helsinki, it is a short drive to reach one of the most beautiful national parks, Nuuksio. Savour the sweet delights of abundant Nordic wild berries, ripe to pick as you hike through awe-inspiring scenery.
